MDA Fill The Boot
Kentucky firefighters lining the streets, boot in hand, asking neighbors to support families fighting muscular dystrophy. It's one of the proudest traditions in our profession.
A 70+ Year Partnership
The IAFF has been MDA's largest national sponsor since 1954. Together we've raised more than three-quarters of a billion dollars for research, care, and family services.

Where the Money Goes
Every dollar collected at a Kentucky intersection helps the Muscular Dystrophy Association fund groundbreaking research, provide world-class medical care, and support families affected by more than 40 neuromuscular diseases.
- Research breakthroughs — gene therapies, treatments, and a path toward cures.
- MDA Care Centers — multidisciplinary clinics where families receive specialized care, often at little or no cost.
- Family support — summer camps, equipment grants, and connection to a community that understands the journey.
How KPFF Locals Participate
Fill The Boot runs every summer across Kentucky. Here's how to bring your local in.
Schedule Your Drive
Coordinate with your municipality to secure intersections, dates, and required permits. Most KPFF locals run drives in late summer leading into Labor Day weekend.
Recruit Your Crew
Build a roster of on-duty and off-duty members willing to staff intersections in 2-hour shifts. Many locals partner with auxiliary, families, and community volunteers.
Spread the Word
Share your dates on social media, local news, and KPFF channels. Let your community know when and where to find you so giving is easy and visible.
Why Firefighters Show Up
We answer the call when families need us most — on the worst day of their lives. For families living with muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases, every day is a fight. Lining up at intersections with a boot in hand is one more way Kentucky firefighters show up. It's our tradition. It's our pride.
Donate to Fill The Boot
100% of donations go directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Make a gift in honor of Kentucky's firefighters and the families they serve.
